The 411 wasn't entirely clear on this issue, but if you haven't yet finished this event, you'll be glad to know that once you're finished, you can continue accepting the items as MBs.
I know a lot of players have long since finished this event, but I just finished it this morning. I really wasn't in a hurry to complete it, especially when I saw that Zynga is going to continue shoving events down our throats.
