Belated Ice Season Reward

Heyyy, look who decided to show up to the party!

If you forgot all about that missing Collect button from the last Ice Season, you may be pleasantly surprised the next time you log into Mafia Wars. I finally got my Sky Manta!

Silverio Fallaci Cooldown

Ok, so Jeff The Knife is out, for now at least, and Clyde Axworthy is in.

...and now Silverio Fallaci gets the cooldown timer? Did I miss something? Was the loot from that particular boss fight updated? If not, why not leave Silverio Fallaci alone and add the timer (or just not add a timer...) to Clyde Axworthy? Seems like a lot of unnecessary changing around.

Mafia Wars Insider

Episode 12 of Mafia Wars Insider has been delayed until next week. We apologize for the inconvenience.

- The Mafia Wars Team
I guess this replaces Mafia Wars Live. Yippee.

Martial Arts Dojo: Not Worth It

Wow. I have a lot to catch up on. You get busy for even a few days away from Mafia Wars, and you're lost when you try and come back. That really kind of sucks. I wish Zynga would listen to us about how there is just too much going on in the game. If I didn't know that certain people would hunt me down and drag me back screaming, I would be really tempted to just not bother trying to catch up at this point.

Anyway. So we have a new property I see, the Martial Arts Dojo. I have yet to ask for my first build part, and I'm really thinking it's not worth my time. This is the top item that the Martial Arts Dojo can build, the Sensei. While the 100 defense stat is nice, I'm really not interested in building loot just for loot's sake, it's the skill points I'm after. And, the Sensei offers no better skills than what we can already build from existing properties.

I checked, and the property builds are still nerfed. So I can only build from 5 properties a day, and Zynga can't offer something better than what I already have. Yet they want me to fatten their wallets by flooding the news feed? Um, I don't think that's gonna happen.

You need to do better, Zynga. Un-nerf the property builds, and then I'll start building again. Or offer something with better stats than other properties offer, then I'll consider building again if the increase in stats is worth the effort.

So my Martial Arts Dojo is going to stay lookin' like this. Untouched.

MafiaVille: a first look

For some it is a first look at MafiaVille, aka MW2(not to be confused with the COD version) and for most it is what you should have expected. Gone is the "classic" button clicking interface and into the isometric view, so popular in other Z-games. So other than the Mafia-like theme, this could be almost like every other game that Z puts out or will put out apparently. Also it begs comparison with other online mafia games from other companies. Click to play video preview courtesy of G4TV.

Notice how the director of MW2 in the video highlights the fact that they have "tons of little animation" as if animation made a game like MW1 fun. Also the PvP(nee Fighting) aspect of the game looks to me like little kids with with their Finger Guns, running around shooting each other {pwaoh pwaoh} but with tons of neat animations, I'm sure. Suffice to say they have completely ignored almost everything or have nary a clue of what made MW1 such a fun+addicting game that is now 3 years ago and maybe on its last legs.

The end is nigh my fellow mafiosos....

the Case of the Missing Body Bags

A short while ago, several of my Family members noticed that their supply of Body Bags had gone mysteriously missing from their Mafia Wars inventories. This was rather alarming, considering myself and many others have actually focused on stock-piling them in the event that they are needed for future Chicago expansions.

I checked, and found that my inventory of the Body Bags was still intact, but a few more Family members discovered that they too were down to zero Body Bags. What the--?

I suspect it has something to do with the requirement of Body Bags for the current mission event, You Iced My Father. Specifically, I noticed that Body Bags are required for the first mission, Gather Intel.

Who knows? Christy L., a Family member, went to Customer Support. Customer Support offered her no explanation, however they did credit her with 200 Body Bags. Another Family member, Michael S., was credited 200 body bags--that sounds aight until you consider that he had over 300 Body Bags to begin with.

Yep, go check your inventory.

Our Jose - a letter from Jose's father, to his Facebook friends

A few days ago, one of our Family members, Mama D, made a startling observation--Silverio Fallaci, one of our Boss Fight characters in Mafia Wars, bears a striking resemblance to Our Jose!

Since Jose's passing and the publication of my tribute video to Jose, I have had contact from some members of his family, including his mother and his father. Each of them has greatly appreciated the sentiments we leave on Jose's wall, and seeing that we share a small part of their grief seems to have helped all of us.

His mother told me she was moved to tears of joy by our expressions, and his father asked me to post this message to Jose's online friends:
". . . Our families have discovered a José that we little knew. Of course he had told us about the Mafia Wars game and how much he enjoyed it, but he never talked about the part he played in it as an [admin] or his being [well-known for his Mafia Wars notes]. And I am sure you are right, Misty, when you say that he would have been surprised at such a reaction among his Web friends. José never bragged about his merits.
We knew he was an expert in his trade (computer graphics design, pre-press, network management, systems management) and that he was very much appreciated not only for his expertise but also for his human qualities. We can see now on various forums that his friends seem to have realized he had these same qualities.

In his family life José was as generous, helping, compassionate, witty, tender, ingenious and also as passionate for anything he was doing, as he appeared to you. We knew this all the time, but we only realize now how lucky we were to have him in our lives for nearly 45 years (he would have turned 46 December 8, 2011).

Now ... how and why had we to lose him so young ? This is something that is very hard to accept.
So, once again, Misty and all the friends who wrote to you to express their sorrow in this difficult time we are going through, we thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.

May our José rest in peace.

Mama D also had this to say, which I strongly identified with:
My reaction and sense of loss at Jose's death took even me by surprise. It hurt and I had never met him but I knew him and cared about him even more than I realized. It's proof to me that that just because someone is not in our physical presence (for both the living and the dead) doesn't mean they are not in our hearts and a part of us. I will never forget him.

Another of Jose's friends shared this photo with me, which I included in the tribute video. Jose had a soft spot for animals, and I was struck by the image of Baby Jose being fascinated by a kitty. Jose's dad, Dr. Perez, told me that he took this photo in Nimes, France, in the summer of 1967.

Dr. Perez is working on a Memorium website for Jose.

If you knew Jose and have a memory to share or words for his family friends, please visit his Memorial guest book HERE. Light a candle and leave a comment so that Jose's friends and especially his family can know what he meant to you.
